(outfit details; dress, last season Who What Wear Collection. jacket, vintage Levis. choker, Five and Two. bracelet, Aurate. shoes, Adidas.)
I wore this dress on the blog last fall. I wasn't even planning on this sunset shoot- but hey, that's what happens when you go to the beach at sunset with your talented photographer friends! It's real life; wearing and rewearing dresses. Some bloggers are so wrapped up in not rewearing the same outfit for a shoot, but I think it shows versatility, it's real life. It is unrealistic to wear something new for every shoot. It feeds into consumerism a little too much. And it is soooo far from sustainable to not rewear clothes, you should be wearing things with love for a long time. I want my blog to represent real life. Yes, it can be flowery, I'm not always baking pies and dancing around beaches in little dresses, but the outfits I wear here, are outfits I really wear. I love mixing editorial with real life.
As I am moving towards and striving for a more sustainable lifestyle, no, I probably (definitely) would not buy a fast fashion dress. But the absolute pillar of sustainability, is wearing and using what you already have. Don't scrap those old fast fashion buys, wear them and rewear them with love. Because what is more wasteful than to toss something in perfectly good condition?
You may cringe when you look at that Zara, HM, Target, whatever logo, but instead of letting that end up in a landfill, WEAR IT. You already purchased it, so WEAR IT. Wear it with love, or gift it, or donate it to a woman's shelter, but make sure that piece of clothing is worn with LOVE.
