Feelin' like a work of art, in some pieces I am so so excited about.
This blog has always been about so much more than "fashion" and current trends, but I don't know that I have always conveyed that verbally. I truly believe fashion is art. I've always loved reading biographies and articles about designers over time and the history behind fashion houses. One fashion house that has always struck me as interesting is Bottega Veneta.
Botega Veneta was started in the 1960's by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. In the lates 1970's they started the tag line “When your own initials are enough"... they literally created logomania... However, when this craze faded, sales began to fall.
In 2001 Bottega brought Tomas Maier on as Creative Director. Tomas turned Bottega around, he removed visible logos, and focused on the intrecciato weave. This symbolized returning to craftsmanship and artisanal production. Intrecciato weave is the gorgeous woven pattern Bottega Veneta is known for today. Vogue described the change of image as an emerging example of “stealth wealth". Well made, high quality, luxurious clothing and accessories that don't scream name brand with logos. The intrecciato has really become Bottega Veneta visual signature. And I have always wanted a handbag with this weave. I finally found one on The Real Real, and I couldn't love it more.
Now, as of 2018, Daniel Lee is the Creative Director of Bottega Veneta, and I am truly dying over everything he creates. I am dreaming of The Pouch, it is like a wearable sculpture. And honestly I could keep you here all day lusting over every single piece. Daniel Lee has an eye for effortless, minimal, elegance. Daniel Lee studied under Pheobe Philo at Céline, and since that era is over, The New Bottega is really the Old Céline. But that's a lesson for another time.
Also, how damn good are these COW NAILS!?
