Low rise baggy pants... who am I!? Femme-ing them up with strappy heels, and a bracelet bag.
An impromptu picnic under the Brooklyn Bridge, with a magic soul friend that I met on Instagram in 2012. It's so crazy when you meet up with a friend from the internet (that you've only met irl once) and it all just feels right. The friendship version of soulmates that love orange wine, picnics, and being real. That fill you up rather than drain you, that listen and encourage and share.
Our picnic coincided with 9/11, we didn't really think about it at the time, but as the sun went down, and the memorial went up, we were SPEECHLESS. New York is an incredibly resilient city, and being there on such an important date was not lost on us.
New York Fashion Week, felt like a dream. My second time attending, this year was bookended with weddings, so I was only there for three days, but those three days were so good and so heart filled. Catching up with my east coast friends, eating (a lot) of pizza (no really a lot, I think I had it five times?). Fun press events, and one really stunning show, Noon By Noor.
Fashion can feel vapid, I get that. It has a reputation for being superficial and flowery. But I disagree, fashion is art. My senior year of college, I started a clothing line for my senior thesis (Jaelle). My professor told me fashion wasn’t art, and I still think about that. It’s such a motivator to me to this day, to show that fashion isn’t shallow, it has depth. A world without art is so bleak, it is how we communicate and share our innermost and our inspiration. It's how we escape and it's how we express. And fashion is the most sublime expression of self and the most potent and tangible form of art. We quite literally wear clothing every single day. So while Fashion Shows may seem vain or silly, I disagree. It’s watching art, and it's watching history unfold. Appreciating the craft and the skill of the designers, trend forecasting. And honestly, the energy is so damn good.
