In 1952 Henri Matisse completed his series Blue Nudes. After he was restricted due to his surgery for stomach cancer he started making art by cutting and painting sheets of paper and supervising the creation of lithographs.
This series of four Blue Nudes is significant because it ties in different periods of his work in together very well. It calls back to his sculptural work, such as La Serpentine. And also incorporates the use of a single color which he made popular during the Fauvism movement. This was Matisses favorite shade of blue. It symbolized distance and volume to him. He would then go on to incorporate these Blue Nudes into larger murals.

Inspired by this, I simplified the lines of Matisse Blue Nude IV with a Jaelle spin and hand embroidered them onto the softest preloved beige tee.
