"Just knock, Darling! We're working up in the studio!" reads the sign on the door of Ore Jewelry nestled in the up and coming Boston neighborhood, the South End. The shop is full of unique hand made jewelry. It is sophisticated, delicate, detailed, and beautiful. Every single piece is jaw dropping yet entirely wearable. I can see myself wearing every single piece in the shop.

Sophie Hughes is the owner and designer behind Ore. She is committed to creating works of wearable art that are environmentally and socially responsible. "Each piece is individually forged start-to-finish in Sophie’s studio using timeworn hammers, anvils, hand tools and torches. Sophie uses the highest quality recycled gold and silver, along with certified reclaimed or ethically sourced gems, for environmentally and socially responsible jewelry. Typically, twenty tons of mining waste are produced to mine gold for a single wedding band, at the expense of local communities, workers, and the environment". Thankfully, this is something Sophie avoids with her practice.

Not only is Ore chock full of Sophie's own designs, but the shop is home to local, female jewelry designer-makers who, whenever possible, use sustainable materials. "Every piece of jewelry in Ore has been thoughtfully designed and handmade in Boston + NY in limited quantities".
