I love Christmas, it is seriously my favorite time of year (okay, I feel like I say that about EVERY season, but hear me out); it is a time for family, generosity, snow, treats, an excuse for me to give handmade gifts, laughter, food, everyone seems more friendly, PLUS I love decorations. Read on for the DIY's and details of my tree.
Birch Bark Star Tree Topper DIY
-I found some birch bark on the ground in the woods on a run last fall, and of course scooped it up. But you can also totally find it online. I made a stencil on and then cut it into the five sections. I then cut the birch bark in the five shapes. I hot glued the five shapes to card stock and cut the card stock out. I had a piece of birch bark that curled around so I used that as a base, but you could use part of a paper towel roll!
Birch Bark Ornaments DIY
-I cut birch bark into circles, glued them to cardstock and glued a piece of wire (to use as a hook) in between the layers.
Mercury Glass Ornaments DIY
-I used plastic for the ones pictured, but honestly I suggest glass. I made glass ones later and they look so much better. Remove the top of the ornament, and set aside. You want to spray the outside of the ornament, so you want to be able to spray it without touching it. I put a straw in it and then placed the straw in a cup filled with potting soil. Anything like this works, maybe you could use an egg carton. Just something to prop it up. Fill a spray bottle with 50/50 water and white vinegar. Lightly spritz the ornament so beads of water appear. Using Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint (yes it HAS TO be this specific paint), lightly mist. Let dry for a few seconds and then blot with a paper towel. This will take off the paint where the water/vinegar mixture was. Repeat until your desired effect is reached. Let dry, put the top back on, and hang!
Jingle Bell Garland DIY
-SO simple. I strung some simple jingle bells on dark green thread, and tied each one off, to make jingle bell garland
Feather Filled Ornaments DIY
-Simply stuff clear glass or plastic ornaments with white feathers. Pop the top back on hang!
Faux Fur Skirt DIY
-Cut a circle out of faux fur. Cut a line to the center, and cut out a smaller circle, just larger than the diameter of your tree trunk in the center. So easy- and it doesn't need to be perfect!
