"Just knock, Darling! We're working up in the studio!" reads the sign on the door of Ore Jewelry nestled in the up and coming Boston neighborhood, the South End. The shop is full of unique hand made jewelry. It is sophisticated, delicate, detailed, and beautiful. Every single piece is jaw dropping yet entirely wearable. I can see myself wearing every single piece in the shop.

Sophie Hughes is the owner and designer behind Ore. She is committed to creating works of wearable art that are environmentally and socially responsible. "Each piece is individually forged start-to-finish in Sophie’s studio using timeworn hammers, anvils, hand tools and torches. Sophie uses the highest quality recycled gold and silver, along with certified reclaimed or ethically sourced gems, for environmentally and socially responsible jewelry. Typically, twenty tons of mining waste are produced to mine gold for a single wedding band, at the expense of local communities, workers, and the environment". Thankfully, this is something Sophie avoids with her practice.

Not only is Ore chock full of Sophie's own designs, but the shop is home to local, female jewelry designer-makers who, whenever possible, use sustainable materials. "Every piece of jewelry in Ore has been thoughtfully designed and handmade in Boston + NY in limited quantities".

A Guide to Boston's Best Donuts + Happy National Donut Day

Happy National Donut Day on juliettelaura.blogspot.com

If you know me, or if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I LOVE donuts. National Donut Day was basically made for me. In the photos above I'm posing with a Dunkin, which admittedly was just a prop. Living in Boston there are so many places to satisfy your morning sweet tooth (that will make you never even consider Dunkin again!). Read on for my list of the three best donut shops in Boston (and more photos of me holding donuts in front of my face)! Not only are these places delicious, but they are majorly instagram worthy as well, which we all know, is really the point.

Union Square Donuts

By far the best donuts in Boston / best donuts ever. Borderline-life changing. Their classic raised donuts are unlike any other (their cake donuts are amazing as well). They are giant (face sized), sweet, fluffy, and have unique and delicious flavors (sea salted caramel bourbon, strawberry, and vanilla bean, are my favorites) that change from time to time, they even have vegan donuts (!!!). I love that these donuts are fun and unique while still remaining refined, no fuss or unnecessary extravagance. Located in Somerville, USD can be quite the trek, but SO worth it (I've uber-ed to and from before.. seriously).

Blackbird Doughnuts

A close second, Blackbird Doughnuts hasn't even been open for a year and they are already taking off. Located right in the South End and newly open 7 days a week, Blackbird is seriously convenient! They are slightly smaller than the former, but just as sweet and fun. My favorite raised flavor is blackberry lavender, although their cake flavors are the best (double chocolate!). They come out with new flavors all the time, always something fun and unique (sesame sriracha, s'mores, fruit filled bismarks). Yum!

Kanes Donuts

Kanes Donuts are hot, sticky, sweet, and classic. I've only been once, since they recently opened their Financial District location. Lemon Hibisicus is the best, but their Honey Dip is a classic. They also have all sorts of fun candy bar flavors and themed flavors. Their original location is in Saugus, and they have grown quite the following (understandably so!).

Boston Pollen for Free People Cambridge Event

Boston Pollen event at Free People Cambridge on juliettelaura.blogspot.com

The other day at my store, Free People Cambridge, we held an event with Krissy Price from Boston Pollen Floral Design. (Did you catch the DIY Flower Crown Post the two of us did last week?) Krissy designed a Free People exclusive bouquet of pink and purple and peonies (my favorite). I snapped some photos of her, as well as Nicole and Austin with the beauty that we raffled off.
