DIY: Studded Tee Shirt

April 1, 2013

I certainly have a thing for studs and spikes, which you may have noticed here and here. I first took interest about over a year ago while reading Fashion Toast, Rumi pulls of studs and spikes effortlessly. The obsession started this past summer while in Europe shopping with Clara. While we were at Zara in Frankfurt there were studded items everywhere, boots, leather jackets, collars of shirts, etc. However, one realization we made was that studded pieces were pricey. Far more expensive than non studded pieces. So, we decided why not make this a DIY. I ended up studding the white shirt, a denim shirt, the black shirt, and a pair of shorts. A few weekends ago I decided to make some teeshirts. This is super easy and you can do it too, so here is a tutorial;

Supplies;
-plain tee shirts (I bought a fruit of the loom 4 pack from Walmart)
-studs (I bought mine at KitKraft)
-chalk
-sissors

Step 1;
You are going to want to cut the shirt to a fit that you like, so chalk out the places where you want to cut. I suggest trying the shirt on with the chalked out lines to make sure you cut in the right places. I like tee shirts and cropped tee shirts, as well as tie waist tee's and tank tops.

Step 2;
Now cut the pieces! Try it on to make sure the right amount is cut.

Step 3;
Chalk out where you want the design. Place the studs where you want them. This is to make sure the design and the studs fit in the right places. I did a cross on one, studded shoulders on another and studs around the edges at the top on this one.

Step 4;
Press the stud through and fold the prongs over. Repeat for each stud!

Step 5; Enjoy your edgy cool T!

Next I want to stud a black leather jacket, a green military style jacket, and shoes. What else would you stud?
